Electronic Cigarette sales soar despite ban

Sales of electronic cigarettes in the US are continuing to soar both online and in brick and mortar shops despite a ban on imports of the tobacco replacement devices.

The New York Times has reported that officials are concerned at the increasing popularity of the devices because many have not been subject to strict testing by researchers.

According to the Times, the American electronic cigarette distributor, Smoking Everywhere sued the FDA for the ban on imports claiming that the agency lacks the jurisdiction to do so since the electroni cigarettes are not marketed as smoking cessation products.
